Included with the carbine is a very nice carved hardwood muzzle tompion. There are two, very nice, cartouches stamped on the left side of the stock, at the wrist, and is Government inspector marked on many other parts. #BURNSIDE CARBINE SERIAL NUMBERS SERIAL NUMBER#
With a serial number of 19859, this Bu for sale by Columbia. These carbines were issued and used hard during the last two years of the war. Produced from 1858 to 1870, the government ordered 55000 at the outbreak of the Civil War. All markings in the metal are excellent, including the company name, and patent dates.

All parts are original to the gun and all serial numbers are correctly. The receiver and balance of metal parts were case hardenend and have also aged to a matching patina, showing mottled remnants of the case hardening. This Burnside carbine is in good condition showing moderate use and saddle wear. The 22″ barrel is smooth, having aged to a nice light brown patina. The port numbers are divided into three ranges: the Well Known Ports, the Registered. Finding an unaltered example in this exceptional condition is rare. Other markings are CAST STEEL 186 on the barrel, and the lockplate is marked BURNSIDE RIFLE CO / PROVIDENCE R.I. The 22" barrel is smooth, having aged to a nice light brown patina. Though deliveries were made in 1863, the top of the frame is marked BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864. The serial numbe is on the top of the breech, top of the receiver and inside (open the breech to see it).
